State Owned Enterprise Minister Erick Thohir said, Jakarta’s recently launched Sarinah Duty Free is expected to pave the way for local businesses to go global.
Providing an upscale showroom for Indonesian SMEs’ products, the store is a Sarinah collaboration – arguable the country’s oldest Jalan Thamrin located shopping mall – and duty-free retail operator Dufry.
Mr. Thohir said, Sarinah provides a stage for Indonesia to showcase its local products and brands, while supporting small and medium enterprises [SMEs], and becoming an international and local tourists’ destination – at the store’s grand launch ceremony at Sarinah Mall.
As an SOE Ministry project, Sarinah aims to accommodate local goods trade and to boost Indonesian economic growth, while creating mutually beneficial cooperation – a mission since the collaboration started.
Mr. Thohir said, we need Dufry to support Indonesia’s products and brands globally, to elevate the partnerships between Dufry and Sarinah – creating win-win cooperation in Indonesia’s big market.
Mr. Thohir said, this aligns with the government target to attract more Indonesia tourists following Covid-19 travel restrictions relaxation.
But plans to introduce local products globally don’t end there. Mr. Thohir plans to expand his collaboration’s local brand range through Dufry globally.
Sarinah President Director Fetty Kwartati said, starting with neighboring countries, such as Malaysia and Singapore, Indonesia Corner will appear in the future in Duty-Free stores around the globe – before expanding to countries like the Netherlands, Germany, or England.
Sarinah Duty-Free is located on the fifth floor, with multiple SMEs’ collaborations on display – including chocolate, coffee, fashion, liquor and cigarettes. To ensure the SMEs are global market competition quality, they are hand-picked through a rigorous selection process.
